3 thoughts for Job Seekers:
Job Seekers must have realistic expectations. I've been talking to some recruiters recently and they tell me 6 months is the average duration of a job search. That's 6 months for someone who is AGGRESSIVELY looking, not just interested in making a change. With that in mind here are 3 thoughts to consider that will help the job seeker keep realistic expectations:

1.) Don't get frustrated if you are not seeing results in your job search. If you aren't getting calls after applying or if you can't seem to break past the phone screen; remain calm. Once you've tried a particular strategy for a while be sure to change it up. For instance, if you're working with the same recruiter but not getting any results, try finding an additional contact. If you keep telling the same story during the phone screen, use a different approach.
2.) Remain tenaciously consistent. You have to be dedicated to meeting weekly goals in your job search. Network with at least 2 new contacts on LinkedIn, tap into your alumni network, and carve out time twice weekly to apply for jobs. If you aren't dedicating at least 4 hours per week to your search you aren't being aggressive enough.
3.) Consider the numbers. There are millions of resumes floating around online and a percentage of those are duplicates only adding to the proverbial "haystack." Landing your next gig will take a combination of repetition and luck. You might talk with multiple recruiters, network with dozens perfect strangers, and apply for over one hundred jobs during your search. The key is to continue creating opportunities to strike the perfect opportunity that will eventually arise.
